Consumer Safety
When we speak about customer safety we are referring to the protection of our products from contamination by bacteria, yeast, mould and fungus or insects – from the time the product is manufactured up until the product has reached its best or use by date.
Dried Herbs
Our dried herbs do not contain any added colours, flavours, fragrances or chemicals. The actual drying process is sufficient for preservation. None of our herbs have been irradiated. Imported herbs are either left under observation in quarantine or undergo a very low heat treatment for 12 hours to eliminate possible insect activity.
Herbal Ointment
There is no way to manufacture products for skin care without using anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and/or anti-viral agents. Our ointments are known in the industry as ‘water in oil’ mixtures which require almost no preservation as bacteria and mould find it very difficult to live in an oily environment. However we believe the ointment should contain some form of preservative action in order to ensure that micro-organisms do not cause any problems for the consumer. Our ointment is likely to be frequently touched by the consumer and therefore has a greater risk of becoming contaminated. We tackle the microbial issues by using the naturally derived preservatives below at a combined concentration of less than 0.5%..
INCI Eucalyptus globulus – Eucalyptus Blue Gum Essential Oil – Eucalyptus has commonly recognised anti bacterial antiviral and antiseptic qualities.
INCI Rosmarinus officinalis – Rosemary Essential Oil – Rosemary is a powerful anti oxidant protecting against rancidity and degradation.
EMULIUM KAPPA – Candelilla/Jojoba/Rice Bran/Glycerin/Cetearyl Alcohol/Sodium Stearoyl Lactylate – an emulsifier and antimicrobial that is used to stabilize water and oil emulsions. The formula is derived from plant-based waxes, alcohols and sugars and promotes moisture retention and hydration.
PLANTASERV A – Benzoic Acid/Purified Water/Acetic Acid – a paraben-free, formaldehyde-free and non-isothiazolone based preservative system for cosmetic formulations including those made to natural certification standards. The formula is derived from organic compounds to prevent spoilage. It is considered a non allergen with a strong broad-spectrum efficacy against bacteria, yeast and mould.
INCI stands for International Nomenclature of Cosmetic Ingredients. The INCI system was established in the early 1970’s. The system regulates the wording for ingredients so the language is uniform worldwide
